The National Park Service (NPS) seeks a qualified firm to perform tree thinning services for Redwood National and State Parks, managed by the South Operations Center located in Orick, CA. The purpose of this work is to thin second growth forests on 678 acres in the South Fork of Lost Man Creek watershed to reduce stand density and alter species composition to promote growth of remaining trees and understory vegetation, development of multistoried canopy, and increase the ratio of redwood to Douglas-fir. This action is needed to accelerate restoration of forest characteristics more typical of late-seral and old-growth redwood forests in the park.

Project Area and Scope:Four silvicultural prescriptions will be used in the project area: Crown Thinning Zone (CTZ), Old-Growth Buffer (OGB), Tanoak Dx (TODx), and Riparian Management Zones (RMZ). The total project acreage is 678 acres. The Crown Thinning Zone is approximately 242 acres; the Old-Growth Buffer occurs on approximately 56 acres; the Tanoak Dx occurs on approximately 190 acres; the Riparian Management Zones occur on approximately 190 acres (146 acres occurring within CTZ, 18 acres occurring in the Old-Growth Buffer, and 26 acres occurring within the Tanoak Dx). The contractor will be responsible for providing all labor, supervision, equipment, tools and supplies as need to accomplish the work of this project.

The date for receipt of proposals will be 30 days from the actual date of issuance of the RFP. Contractor's will be responsible for periodically checking the website for any Amendments that may be issued to the RFP prior to the closing date.
