Update #27 ·
Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations for combustion do not currently havethe predictive capability typically found for non-reacting flows due to the prohibitivelyhigh computational cost incurred when one introduces detailed chemical kinetics. In thisSBIR project, we propose a novel metho, Adaptive Chemistry, to enable such detailedmodeling. This method adapts the reaction mechanism used in CFD to local reactionconditions. Instead of a single comprehensive reaction mechanism throughout thecomputation, smaller, locally valid reduced models are used to accurately capture thechemical kinetics at a smaller cost.
Update #26 ·
The proposed innovation is a self-contained, self-powered, robust flight testsensor array for the determination of separation. The proposed system usesoff-the-shelf, currently available technology to create a reusable distributed sensorarray, which requires no external wiring or power source. The system is based on tuftsattached to individual bimorph piezoelectric sensors.
Update #25 ·
Replaces NNX10RA28CA radiation tolerant high performance (100M Samples/second) 32-bit lossless customprocessor will be delivered in the proposed work which meets the CCSDS 121-0-B 1recommendation. The processor will be implemented in a radiation tolerant 0.25 micronCMOS process which realizes a proven algorithm developed at GSFC and implemented in a15-bit version 10 years ago. The new compressor is 5 times faster and has twice the inputquantization range, suitable for modern spacecraft requirements. The net-list (design) ofthe processor can be used to synthesize a future 200 Msamples/sec plus data rates when asub-100 nm radiation tolerant fabrication process is available.

Update #23 ·
Accelogic's goal is to demonstrate the potential for 1,000x speedup. During PhaseI, Accelogic has proven it is ideally positioned to capitalize upon recent advances inreconfigurable computing. The ability to solve large-scale linear equations rapidly is aclear and fundamental driver for the following activities and/or industries both insideand outside of NASA: product design and performance simulation (aerospace, automotive, defense, boats, nuclear energy, electronic chips, power networks, radar, telecommunications, acoustics, buildings and bridges, drugs, chemistry, antennas andradio systems, machinery, combustion); economic forecasting (insurance, financialmarkets, budgeting, hedge funds management); physical forecasting (weather, environmentalengineering, geophysics); and data analysis (defense, logistics, search engines, nationalsecurity, gaming, marketing).
Update #22 ·
Impact Technologies continue developing key enhancements to NASA's HybridDiagnostic Engine (HyDE) that represent valuable and, in some cases, critical featuresfor Integrated System Health Management (ISHM) developers in NASA and non-NASAapplication domains. Specifically, the proposed program will be focused on attainingthree milestones. The first goal is to achiev commercial-grade readiness of a secondprogram goal is deploying HyDE DP to Kennedy Space Center's (KSC) Integrated GroundSystem in support of the Constellation Program.
Update #21 ·
Materials Research & Design (MR&D) is proposing in the SBIR Phase II an effort todevelop a tool for predicting the fatigue life of C/SiC composite laminates, whichincorporates mechanical loading at any minimum stress to maximum stress ratio (i.e., Rvalue), at room and elevated temperatures, in either inert or oxidizing environments. Thesuccess of this effort would represent a significant state-of-the-art improvement infatigue projections of ceramic matrix composites, since no tools capable of accomplishingthis have ever been developed. The developed algorithm, implemented via user-definedsubroutines operating within the ABAQUS public domain finite element software, willrepresent a significant new addition to the suite tools currently available to CMCdesigners.
Update #20 ·
Will design and analyze a lunar habitat wall system using their ceramic compositematerial as the primary structural member. Will fabricate and strength test theirceramic composit materials to demonstrate that the ceramic composite system is a viablestructural material for lunar habitats. We will demonstrate tha the ceramic compositesystem will provide at least 20% greater radiation shielding effectiveness against GCRand SPE than an aluminum structure of comparable mass.
Update #19 ·
