Update #2 · Latest ·
Rare earth technology is being pursued globally at fever pitch
- The DOE Tripartite Collaboration (US-EU-Japan) is ongoing for the technology development
- Global clean energy industry has projected the acute shortage of rare-earth elements around 2030
- Two of the most important areas:
- Production of RE metals/alloys
- Recycling of waste RE materials
INL's Solutions:
- Recycling waste rare earth permanent magnet (NdFeB)
- A one-step conversion process of the rare earth oxices to rare earth metals and alloys
- A molten salt electrolytic process to fabricate new hybrid/composite magnetic materials
- Conversion of a non-magnet to soft magnet
INL is seeking to license the above intellectual property to a company with a demonstrated ability to bring such inventions to the market. Exclusive rights in defined fields of use may be available.
