About this opportunity

The CDC Office of Acquisition Services intends to award a sole-source contract to the American Academy of Pediatrics for manuscript preparation and publication of a journal supplement to Pediatrics featuring up to ten peer-reviewed articles from the Infant Feeding Practices Study III, with expressions of interest due July 31, 2026. The procurement is being conducted under FAR 13.106-1(b) and FAR Subpart 12.6 streamlined procedures for commercial items.

Market research identified four peer-reviewed journals as potential publishers, but Pediatrics was selected as the sole suitable option based on its impact factor of 6.4 (greater than the 6.0 minimum requirement), status as the most cited journal in pediatrics, strong domestic U.S.-focused readership, and alignment with the target audience of pediatric healthcare providers, clinicians, public health entities, and policymakers. The vendor must provide article peer-review management, editing and proofreading, illustration and graphic design, composition, printing, binding, online hosting, and dissemination activities including news releases and social media promotion. The supplement is anticipated for release in December 2026.

Place of performance is not specified. The contract period runs August 15, 2026 through August 14, 2027. All work must comply with HHS/CDC information security, privacy, and records management requirements, including encryption standards, non-disclosure agreements, mandatory training, and incident response protocols within one hour. Payment is structured across six task-based milestones: kickoff meeting (10%), peer review determination (10%), acceptance determination (15%), copy-ready articles (30%), final publication PDFs (15%), and production and dissemination (20%). No estimated procurement amount is disclosed. Interested vendors may submit expressions of interest by 3:00 PM ET on July 31, 2026 to qty0@cdc.gov.
