About this opportunity
The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division, issued a sole-source justification to extend contract N00167-20-D-0013 with General Atomics for the design, manufacturing, and delivery of an improved bearing mounting structure and bearing shell for attack submarines in support of the Advanced Propulsor Management Office. The extension, authorized under clause 52.216-22, adds 15 months to the original contract period, with deliveries now required through April 30, 2027, and involves completing design and manufacturing drawings along with actual production of the specialized prototype bearing components. General Atomics was selected as the sole source based on its unique expertise, exclusive knowledge of the detailed design and manufacturing processes, and technical capabilities, having already completed three multi-coil spring prototypes with machine programming underway for production anticipated to commence in September 2025. The estimated total dollar value for this extension is approximately several million dollars (specific amount redacted), funded through Research, Development, Test & Evaluation appropriations, with manufacturing drawings expected to be finalized by February 2026. While this modification represents a sole-source award, the original contract was previously awarded through competitive procurement, and the Department of the Navy has indicated that a follow-on competitive solicitation is underway for future related work.
