About this opportunity

The US Army Contracting Command-Redstone, a division of the Department of the Army Materiel Command, has issued a Special Notice seeking market research for procuring a specialized Pico Solar Simulator. The notice focuses on obtaining an LED-based solar simulator with precise technical specifications for testing photosensitive materials, solar cell performance, and material degradation studies. This equipment is intended for delivery to the Army's APSL facility located at Redstone Arsenal in Alabama. The simulator requires specific technical capabilities, including a wavelength range of 350-1500 nm, AM1.5G Spectral Mismatch less than 5%, and precise spatial and temporal stability parameters. The opportunity is not set aside for any specific business category, making it open to a broad range of potential suppliers.

Contractors interested in responding to this Request for Information (RFI) must submit a 3-page white paper in Microsoft Word format by April 7, 2025, at 2:00 PM CST. The white paper should include comprehensive company details such as business name, business size, socio-economic status, and point of contact information. The submission must be emailed to the designated contracting officers, Portia Sampson and Taylor Siskoff. While this RFI is primarily a market research initiative and does not guarantee a contract, it provides an opportunity for potential suppliers to demonstrate their capability to meet the Army's precise technical requirements for the solar simulator. The equipment must operate without a PC and be capable of variable intensity control, with delivery specified to the Redstone Arsenal facility. Importantly, this is an information-gathering exercise to help the Army identify potential sources for this specialized scientific equipment.
