About this opportunity

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) has issued a Special Notice for a partnership opportunity related to a proposed Astrophysics Small Explorer (SMEX) mission. MSFC is seeking a teaming partner to provide a spacecraft bus for this mission concept, which is being developed in anticipation of an SMEX Announcement of Opportunity (AO) expected to be released by NASA in the third quarter of fiscal year 2025.

The purpose of this partnership opportunity is to select a contractor to support the development of the SMEX proposal and, if selected, participate in a 9-month Phase A concept study and provide the design, development, and testing of the spacecraft bus through launch and commissioning. The expected total cost cap for the overall mission is $175 million (FY2025), excluding the launch vehicle. Interested parties must submit a Notice of Interest by July 1, 2024 and a full proposal in response to the Partnership Opportunity Announcement by August 5, 2024. Proposals will be evaluated based on technical approach (30%), cost (45%), and relevant experience/past performance (25%), with the partner selection expected by August 13, 2024.
