About this opportunity
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Langley Research Center has issued a Special Notice seeking potential partners for the Modular Assembled Radiators for NEP VehicLes (MARVL) project under the Early Career Initiative (ECI). This opportunity focuses on developing advanced technology for Nuclear Electric Propulsion (NEP) vehicles, specifically targeting the Primary Heat Rejection Subsystem (PHRS). The project aims to design modular radiator units capable of assembly in space, leveraging expertise from various organizational types. NASA is particularly interested in collaborating with partners who possess specialized knowledge in radiative heat rejection systems, fluid loop design, and in-space assembly technologies.
Contractors interested in this opportunity must submit a five-page capability statement by January 16, 2024, at 4:30 PM EDT, addressing four key evaluation criteria: Technical Qualifications (30 points), Management Approach (25 points), Teaming and Workforce Approach (25 points), and Iterative Design Approach (20 points). The project is open to U.S. and non-U.S. organizations, including educational institutions, industry, non-profits, and government agencies, with special encouragement for HBCUs, minority universities, and small businesses. The initiative will run for two years with funding up to $1.0M annually, and requires that at least half of the core team consists of NASA early career employees, with an early career employee serving as Project Lead. Ideal partners will demonstrate expertise in areas such as radiative heat rejection systems, alkali metal fluid loops, high-temperature fluid interfaces, and in-space assembly or modeling capabilities.
