Update #1 ·
The Rock Island Contracting Center, in support of the Joint Munitions Command, intends to release a solicitation (W52P1J10R0155) on or about 7 May 2010 for the Operation and Maintenance of the Hawthorne Army Depot (HWAD), Hawthorne, NV. The HWAD is located 130 miles southeast of Reno, NV and 300 miles north of Las Vegas, NV. The Operation and Maintenance contract is currently held by Day & Zimmermann-Hawthorne Corporation under a firm fixed price contract. In addition to numerous base operation support tasks such as grounds maintenance, fire and emergency protection, force protection/security, safety, and information technology, the Operation and Maintenance effort includes, but is not limited to, demilitarization of conventional ammunition, storage, receipt, packaging, crating, and handling of conventional ammunition, tenant support, life support of armed forces units conducting pre-deployment training missions at the depot, potential commercial use of the facilities under the Armament Retooling and Manufacturing Support (ARMS) Agreement, and storage of elemental mercury.
Solicitation W52P1J08R0017, which was previously released for the Operation and Maintenance of HWAD, has been cancelled. The Government intends to issue a new solicitation, as referenced above, due to receipt of unaffordable offers under the original solicitation resulting in a significant shift in the Acquisition Strategy.
