The waterway currently supports approximately 1,300 commercial lockages and 750 recreational lockages annually, with commodity tonnage reaching approximately 6 million tons, while also serving over 1 million annual recreational visitors across eight Class A Campgrounds, three Visitor Centers, and 52 Day Use Areas. The contractor must also operate and maintain a floating plant consisting of a towboat, crane barge, and several other workboats and barges. The solicitation was posted on February 12, 2026, with proposals due by April 9, 2026, though specific evaluation criteria details and question deadline information are not fully detailed in the provided documentation.

This contract opportunity is designated as a Total Small Business set-aside, restricting competition to certified small businesses. The place of performance is located at 3606 West Plymouth Road, Columbus, Mississippi 39701, with project operations across Sumter, Greene, and Pickens Counties in Alabama and Noxubee, Lowndes, Clay, Monroe, Itawamba, Prentiss, Lauderdale, Kemper, and Tishomingo Counties in Mississippi.
