About this opportunity

The Department of the Navy Naval Supply Systems Command is procuring 2,500 units of self-locking nuts under NSN 1H-5310-012708662-L1, with delivery terms FOB Origin. This procurement requires engineering source approval by the design control activity to maintain part quality, and only approved sources with existing unique design capabilities, engineering skills, and manufacturing knowledge may supply these components. The approved sources retain essential data rights and technical knowledge that are not economically available to the Government, making their expertise critical for maintaining part quality standards. Any alternate source seeking to participate must qualify through procedures approved by the cognizant Government engineering activity having jurisdiction over the part. The pre-solicitation notice was posted on June 10, 2025, with a due date of July 11, 2025 for interested parties to respond.

This opportunity is designated as a Total Small Business set-aside, restricting competition to qualifying small business concerns. No specific incumbent contractors or potential award values are identified in the notice, though the quantity requirement of 2,500 units suggests a moderate-scale procurement. The technical data package is at version 008, indicating this is an established part with documented specifications and requirements. Interested parties can access relevant military specifications, standards, and qualified products lists through the DoD Single Stock Point online portal or by contacting the ASSIST Help Desk in Philadelphia. The specialized nature of this procurement, requiring pre-approved sources with proprietary technical knowledge, suggests a limited competitive environment focused on maintaining existing supply chain relationships with qualified manufacturers.
