About this opportunity
The Department of the Interior's Interior Business Center, Acquisition Services Directorate has issued a Special Notice announcing its intention to use robotic process automation (RPA) to closeout federal contracts in accordance with FAR 4.804. This automated closeout process will be applied to 146 contracts that have met specific criteria including expired performance periods, full invoicing with zero-dollar balances, firm-fixed price structures, and obligations below the simplified acquisition threshold. The affected contracts span various sectors including aviation, technology, consulting, and government services, with contract values ranging from approximately $2,300 to over $249,000. The notice serves as advance notification to the identified vendors listed in the attached contract roster. Contract periods for these awards typically span from 2020 to 2025, with most having start dates between 2024-2025.
The primary purpose of this Special Notice is to provide advance warning to contractors that their completed contracts will be administratively closed through an automated system rather than traditional manual processes. The RPA closeouts are scheduled to commence ten days after the posting of this announcement, which was published on August 27, 2025, meaning the automated closures will begin around September 6, 2025. No action is required from contractors as this is purely an informational notice about an administrative process that will affect contracts already completed and fully paid. The eligibility for this automated closeout is limited to contracts that have already expired, been fully invoiced with zero remaining balances, structured as firm-fixed price agreements, and fell below the simplified acquisition threshold during their original award. This initiative represents the government's effort to streamline contract administration through technological automation for routine closeout procedures.
