About this opportunity
NASA Glenn Research Center has issued a Notice of Partnering Opportunity for the Payloads and Research Investigations on the Surface of the Moon (PRISM) program. This solicitation seeks non-Government partners to collaborate on developing science-driven instruments and technology demonstration payloads for lunar surface missions. The opportunity is open to organizations interested in supporting advanced scientific investigations and technology demonstrations that align with NASA's strategic objectives across multiple directorates. Interested parties must submit responses by February 9, 2026, with technical or procurement questions due by February 5, 2026. The PRISM program represents a significant partnership opportunity for organizations capable of contributing to lunar exploration and scientific advancement.
The primary objective of this Notice is to identify and engage non-Government partners who can contribute technological expertise, instrumentation capabilities, and development support for lunar payload missions. Eligible respondents must submit two-page proposals outlining their proposed capabilities, technological processes, development activities, and evidence of successful participation in similar efforts, with evaluation based on the relevance of their technology and instrumentation concepts and their relevant experience and technical capability. Participating organizations are not required to exchange funds during proposal preparation, and NASA will negotiate individually with selected partners to establish specific roles, cost estimates, statements of work, and procurement arrangements. The payloads will be delivered via Commercial Lunar Payload Services landers to designated lunar surface locations, including the South Pole region, and must address science goals from the Science Mission Directorate, objectives of the Exploration Systems Development Mission Directorate, or technology demonstration goals of the Space Technology Mission Directorate. PRISM awards are expected to support all investigation phases from payload development through data analysis, with the Step-1 proposal deadline for the underlying Announcement of Opportunity set for February 20, 2026.
Notice text
This present Notice solicits partners for support of the development and flight of a science-driven suite of instruments and supporting technology demonstration payloads tailored to complete scientific investigations at a lunar landing destination. The investigation should address topic relevant to the science goals of 1) any of the Science Mission Directorate’s goals, e.g., Planetary Science, Earth Science, Heliophysics, Astrophysics, and Biological and Physical Sciences, 2) objectives of the Exploration Systems Development Mission Directorate (ESDMD), and 3) any technology demonstration goals of the Space Technology Mission Directorate (STMD) that advance capabilities for science, exploration, or commercial development of the Moon. Payloads will be delivered on a Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) lander to a location the lunar surface that is identified and justified in the proposal, including the South Pole region but excluding the North Pole region.
