About this opportunity

The Department of Energy, National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) issued a notice of intent to sole source a purchase order to K.R. Komarek Inc. for a highly specialized laboratory-to-pilot scale HPGR (High Pressure Grinding Roll) instrument, with an interested-party response deadline of 1300 PM ET on September 18, 2026. NETL's market research determined that K.R. Komarek Inc.'s KR-330 HPGR is the only known equipment meeting NETL's unique physical footprint, variable-capacity throughput, custom support integration, and certified safety parameters required for active research programs at the Albany, Oregon site. The instrument will process, comminute, and perform size reduction of various research materials to support mission-critical materials programs. No known alternate sources exist that could satisfy NETL's highly specific research requirements and integrate the physical constraints, throughput versatility, and structural safety certifications required for installation. Any interested party that believes it is capable of meeting the requirement must provide written evidence of capability to Contract Specialist Stefanie Page (stefanie.page@netl.doe.gov) by the stated deadline. The Government reserves the discretion to compete or not compete the requirement based on responses received. The procurement is governed by the Revolutionary FAR Overhaul (RFO) Part 12 commercial products and services acquisition framework.
