About this opportunity

The Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) has issued a Notice of Intent to award a sole-source contract to Akamai Technologies, Inc., for the Global Content Delivery Service (GCDS) III requirement. This special notice was posted on April 29, 2026, and represents DISA's intention to continue its enterprise-level content delivery network services without conducting a full and open competition. The GCDS is a critical infrastructure service that provides secure, reliable, and globally distributed content acceleration and monitoring across Department of Defense networks on both classified and unclassified systems. Akamai's selection is justified based on its unique position as the only responsible source capable of meeting the requirement without unacceptable delays or increased costs due to over a decade of deep system integration and proprietary infrastructure customization.

Despite the sole-source designation, DISA is inviting interested companies to submit detailed capability statements demonstrating their ability to fulfill this requirement within 15 calendar days of the notice publication, with a deadline of May 13, 2026. The contractor must obtain a final Secret Facility Clearance, and personnel assigned to the contract must maintain interim or final Secret security clearances. This follow-on effort, known as Defense Edge, will enhance content delivery, identity management, and security services by unifying existing public and private service offerings while leveraging Zero Trust security principles and commercial best practices. The previous contract was held by Peraton Enterprise Solutions LLC with Akamai as subcontractor and ran through February 8, 2027. The NAICS classification is 541519 (Other Computer Related Services) with a $34 million size standard, and interested parties should contact Sara Vogelgesang or Tricia Singler at DISA for additional information.
