About this opportunity
The Department of Energy's National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) has issued a Special Notice of Intent to Sole Source a purchase order to the Carnegie Science Center for an Energy Zone Exhibit and Energy Show. The notice, posted on May 9, 2025, with a response deadline of May 19, 2025, outlines NETL's intention to award a contract using Simplified Acquisition Procedures under FAR Part 13. The contract is for a base period of one year with up to four additional one-year option periods. NETL has identified the Carnegie Science Center as the premier science education institution in the Pittsburgh region, uniquely aligned with the laboratory's mission to promote STEM education and energy literacy. The science center draws over 500,000 visitors annually and offers a diverse audience including school field trips, families, educators, and out-of-state visitors.
The primary objective of this Special Notice is to establish a sole source contract for hosting and supporting the NETL Energy Zone Exhibit within the Carnegie Science Center's Exploration Station. NETL believes the Carnegie Science Center is the only suitable venue in the region capable of supporting, maintaining, and promoting the exhibit due to its dedicated STEM galleries, interactive technology spaces, and trained science education staff. Interested parties who believe they can meet NETL's requirements must submit written evidence of their capability to Cynthia V. Madison via email by 3:30 PM ET on May 19, 2025. Telephone responses will not be accepted, and the government retains sole discretion to determine whether to compete the requirement based on received responses. The exhibit will be integrated into broader programming such as SciTech Days, STEM Adventure Camps, and educator workshops, with a focus on real-world applications of STEM in industry, research, and innovation. This notice is not a request for quote/proposal but an opportunity for potential contractors to demonstrate their capabilities.
