About this opportunity
NASA's Glenn Research Center issued a Notice of Intent to Sole Source on July 30, 2026, for Service Pack 0 (SP0) space-qualified, radiation-tolerant single-board computers from Aitech Defense Systems, Inc., with a response deadline of August 14, 2026. NASA GRC intends to award a firm fixed-price contract to Aitech as the only responsible source reasonably available under FAR 6.103-1(b), citing the proprietary nature of SP0 designs and the critical role of existing SP0 hardware in reducing risk across avionics and software test labs at GRC and JSC prior to delivery of new flight hardware.
The procurement supports a project with a firm Fall-2027 delivery requirement (~12 months) for flight hardware, enabling system-level testing by end-2027. Moving away from SP0s would defer risk reduction activities and necessitate updates to software testing infrastructure. The contract will be conducted under FAR Part 12 (Acquisition of Commercial Products and Commercial Services) and FAR Part 15 (Contracting by Negotiation).
Interested organizations may submit capabilities and qualifications electronically to the identified point of contact no later than 5:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on August 14, 2026. Submissions will be evaluated solely to determine whether the Government should conduct the acquisition on a competitive basis; the Government retains sole discretion on whether to proceed with sole-source award or open competition. Oral communications are not acceptable. The applicable NAICS code is 334111 (Electronic Computer Manufacturing).
Notice text
NASA’s Glenn Research Center (GRC) intends to negotiate a sole source contract with Aitech Defense Systems, Inc. for Service Pack 0 (SP0) space-qualified, radiation-tolerant single-board computers. Currently, SP0 single-controller computers are proprietary designs from Aitech Defense Systems, Inc.
SP0s currently reside within the existing ground test architecture at both GRC avionics group and JSC within Software Test Labs. This existing hardware will be used to reduce risk in these areas prior to the delivery of new hardware. Moving away from SP0s would result in significant deferral of risk reduction, as well as the need to update the software labs. The SP0 computers have been identified to fit the project needs and the schedule to meet these needs requires delivery of flight hardware by Fall-2027 (~12 months), to support system level testing near the end-2027.
This procurement is being conducted in accordance with FAR Part 12 – Acquisition of Commercial Products and Commercial Services and FAR Part 15 – Contracting by Negotiation. NASA GRC anticipates awarding a firm fixed-price contract to Aitech Defense Systems, Inc. as the only responsible source reasonably available to satisfy the agency requirements under the authority of FAR 6.103-1(b).
The applicable NAICS Code is 334111 – Electronic Computer Manufacturing
Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications to perform the effort electronically via email to the identified point of contact not later than 5:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on August 14, 2026. Such capabilities/qualifications will be evaluated solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct this acquisition on a competitive basis. A determination by the Government not to compete this acquisition on a full and open competition basis, based upon responses to this notice, is solely within the discretion of the Government.
Oral communications are not acceptable in response to this notice.
NASA Clause 1852.215-84, Ombudsman, is applicable. The Center Ombudsman for this acquisition can be found at: https://www.hq.nasa.gov/office/procurement/regs/Procurement-Ombuds-Comp-Advocate-Listing.pdf
