About this opportunity

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) published this Special Notice on October 23, 2025, announcing its intention to issue a funding opportunity under the High Performance Computing for Energy Innovation (HPC4EI) Initiative. The notice specifically addresses the upcoming solicitation for the High-Performance Computing for Manufacturing (HPC4Mfg) program, which is supported jointly by DOE's Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Technologies Office (AMMTO) and the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy's Industrial Technologies Office (ITO). This Notice of Intent signals the government's commitment to leveraging high-performance computing resources to support American manufacturing innovation. The opportunity represents a collaborative approach between federal resources and private industry to address complex technical challenges in energy and materials sectors.

The HPC4EI program aims to provide U.S. manufacturers with access to Department of Energy National Laboratory expertise and supercomputing resources, enabling them to reduce costs, improve efficiency and performance, strengthen supply chain resilience, and enhance global competitiveness. Eligible applicants are limited to entities that manufacture products or conduct operations in the United States for commercial applications, along with supporting organizations. Selected projects will receive funding awards up to $400,000 to support computing cycles and work performed by DOE national laboratories, universities, and non-profit partners, though industry participants must contribute at least 20% of total project funding through either in-kind or cash contributions. All DOE national laboratories are eligible to serve as collaborative partners in these projects. The solicitation is due by April 30, 2026, and detailed topics of interest will be specified in the full funding opportunity announcement.
