About this opportunity
The Department of the Army Corps of Engineers Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) has issued a Special Notice announcing its intent to grant an exclusive license to Nearshore Logistics LLC, a limited liability corporation based in Mandeville, Louisiana. The notice pertains to a specific U.S. Patent Application No. 18/527,254 for an invention titled "A Submersible Matting System," which was originally filed on December 2, 2023. This special notice is being published in accordance with federal regulations outlined in 37 CFR 404.7(a)(1), which govern the licensing of government-owned inventions. The patent application appears to be related to a technical innovation in submersible infrastructure or maritime engineering developed by the U.S. Army.
The primary purpose of this special notice is to formally communicate the Army's intention to exclusively license the patented technology to Nearshore Logistics LLC and provide an opportunity for potential objections from interested parties. Any entity wishing to contest the license must submit written objections with supporting evidence within 15 days following the publication of the announcement, with the current due date set as December 11, 2024. The proposed license is characterized as revocable and royalty-bearing, which means Nearshore Logistics will have exclusive rights to practice and sell the invention while providing ongoing financial compensation to the government. Eligibility for objection appears to be open to any interested party, though the notice does not specify specific contractor qualifications beyond the ability to file a substantive objection. This licensing opportunity represents a standard procedure for transferring government-developed technological innovations to the private sector, potentially enabling further development and commercialization of the submersible matting system technology.
