About this opportunity
The Department of Defense, through the 502d Contracting Squadron, has published a Notice of Intent to Award Sole Source for Air Boss Services supporting the Joint Base San Antonio Air Show Program 2026. The notice, posted on January 13, 2026, indicates the agency's intent to award a sole-source purchase order to Air Boss and Consulting International, Inc. (CAGE code 1QJJ7) under the authority of FAR 13.106-1(b)(1)(i). The contracting officer has determined that this contractor is the only responsible source capable of meeting the agency's unique requirements due to the specialized nature of air show operations. This notice is not a competitive solicitation but rather an announcement of the intended award decision. Interested parties have until January 16, 2026, to respond with information about their capabilities and interest in the requirement.
The primary objective is to secure Air Boss Services for the JBSA Randolph Air Show, requiring expertise in airspace management, aerial demonstration control, and complex air show operations. To qualify, interested contractors must demonstrate 20 or more years of Air Boss experience and provide references from a minimum of nine large air shows with 100,000 or more attendees conducted within the past three years. Contractors must also prove expertise in airspace rules, FAA and USAF coordination procedures, Air Traffic Control procedures, and experience managing aerial demonstrations utilizing ground-based and/or airborne pyrotechnics. Additionally, candidates must have pilot and airshow instructor credentials. While this notice signals the government's intent to award to a single source, the contracting officer retains discretionary authority to conduct a competitive procurement based on capability statements received from interested parties.
