About this opportunity

UT-Battelle, LLC, on behalf of the Department of Energy, seeks proposals for an Automated Nickel Purification System, with proposals due July 27, 2026. This is an unrestricted procurement with no set-aside.

Place of performance is Oak Ridge, Tennessee. The system comprises four stages: chromatographic purification using peristaltic pumps and optical sensors; electroplating using dual chambers with linear and vertical rails under 12-volt DC power (maximum 50 Vdc supply); electrode polarity reversal to oxidize solid nickel back into solution; and drying in a heated aluminum chamber on a Mettler balance with optional magnetic stirring and PID temperature control. The system operates through Visual Basic.NET software provided by the seller with source code delivered to UT-Battelle. Construction must be completed within two months following design approval, with workstation protocol approval required 30 days before project completion. Electronic components and motors are warranted for one year; fluid contact components for 60 days. The seller does not warranty compatibility with undisclosed reagents and reserves the right to charge for post-installation modifications required due to chemical or physical incompatibilities.

NAICS code 334516, Analytical Laboratory Instrument Manufacturing, applies with a 1,000-employee size standard. PSC code 6640 covers Laboratory Equipment and Supplies. Terms and conditions are fixed price. Offerors must register in SAM, certify compliance with export control, Buy American Act (for supplies exceeding $15,000), Section 889 telecommunications restrictions, and provide small-business status certifications. The contract incorporates FAR clauses including patent authorization and consent (FAR 52.227-1), limited rights data restrictions, and technical data rights with form-fit-and-function alternatives available to protect seller proprietary information.
