About this opportunity
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has issued a Special Notice for its Centennial Challenges Program LunaRecycle Challenge Request for Information (RFI). The Centennial Challenges Program aims to stimulate research and technology solutions to support NASA's missions and inspire new national aerospace capabilities through public prize competitions.
The purpose of this RFI is to seek feedback on the anticipated competition structure, prize amounts, and distribution, as well as the level of interest in competing for the LunaRecycle Challenge. The challenge is expected to be a $3 million, two-track, two-phase competition. Track 1 (Digital Twin) requires developing a digital twin that models a holistic recycling system for the lunar surface, while Track 2 (Prototype Build) requires the design and development of novel recycling hardware. Phase 1 will award up to $50,000 to 8 teams in each track, and Phase 2 is anticipated to award $600,000 for Track 1 and $1.4 million for Track 2. NASA is seeking input on the technical requirements, rules, and incentives to encourage participation in this challenge.
