About this opportunity
NASA's Earth Science Technology Office (ESTO) has contracted with Blue Clarity LLC to implement the NASA Beyond the Algorithm Challenge, which seeks to advance computational technologies including quantum, neuromorphic, and in-memory computing with a specific focus on improving flood water analysis using unconventional computing methods. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration Johnson Space Center is simultaneously seeking volunteer judges who are U.S.-based venture experts with expertise in computing entrepreneurship, startup experience, SBIR/STTR awards, startup investing, or venture building. The challenge will proceed through three phases: Phase One requires submission of a 5-page white paper and 2-3 minute video, Phase Two involves finalists uploading code solutions and presenting to judges, and Phase Three includes a "Funding 101" webinar and follow-up surveys. Selected judges must commit 10-15 hours to the evaluation process and participate in a training call during August and September 2025. Questions must be submitted by email with the subject line "NASA Beyond the Algorithm Challenge Question/Clarification" to the primary point of contact, with a response deadline of June 20, 2025.
This pre-solicitation notice indicates no set-aside designation has been applied to this opportunity. Blue Clarity LLC has been identified as the current contractor implementing the challenge on behalf of NASA ESTO. Up to 10 finalists will be selected from Phase One submissions to participate in a September 2025 Pitch Event, with up to three winners ultimately receiving $100,000 prizes each in Phase Two. The competition timeline spans from the current call for submissions through September 2025, with the judging process concentrated in August and September 2025. Technical questions regarding the Blue Clarity website and submission process should be directed to info@NASA-Beyond-Challenge.org, while general inquiries should be sent to the listed primary point of contact by the June 20, 2025 deadline.
