About this opportunity

Naval Sea Systems Command modified contract N0002426C4434 on August 17, 2026, expanding boiler repair and maintenance services to Walashek Industrial & Marine, Inc. across six Landing Helicopter Dock-class ships: USS WASP (LHD 1), USS ESSEX (LHD 2), USS KEARSARGE (LHD 3), USS BATAAN (LHD 5), USS BOXER (LHD 4), and USS IWO JIMA (LHD 7), with a modification value of $62,395,164.

The modification covers a three-year period of performance through February 17, 2029. Scope includes inter-availability support, material condition inspections and assessments, engineering and design support, execution planning and preparation, material procurement, and maintenance, alteration, and repair of boiler systems across continuous and emergent maintenance availabilities. The award was made without full and open competition under 10 U.S.C. 3204(a)(1), citing sole-source justification. The Navy determined Walashek possesses specialized knowledge and seven years of proven experience with LHD-1 class steam propulsion systems; prior market research (sources sought posted May 30, 2025) and a Special Notice (April 8, 2026) identified no competing capable sources. No set-aside was applied. Technical inquiries should be directed to CDR Greg Sceviour or Kevin Becker at the contact addresses provided in the posting.

Notice text

The N0002426C4434 contract for the Boilers Repair and Maintenance on the USS BOXER (LHD 4) and USS IWO JIMA (LHD 7) was recently modified to include the addition of the USS WASP (LHD1), USS ESSEX (LHD 2), USS KEARSARGE (LHD 3), and USS BATAAN (LHD 5) into the scope of work. The modification incorporates the inter-availability support, inspections & assessments, engineering & design support (i.e., conducting periodic material condition assessments of the boilers and ensuring specifications reflect the material condition of the ship), execution planning & preparation (i.e., preparing to complete both emergent and continuous maintenance availabilities), material procurement, maintenance, alteration and repair of the boiler systems on the USS WASP (LHD1), USS ESSEX (LHD 2), USS KEARSARGE (LHD 3), and USS BATAAN (LHD 5) in the three (3) year period of performance.

This action aligns with the contract’s current contract line item number (CLIN) structure, which includes emergent repair for USS BOXER (LHD 4) and USS IWO JIMA (LHD 7). For clarity, this scope also applies to the USS BOXER (LHD 4) and USS IWO JIMA (LHD 7).  This modification adds similar emergent repair CLINs for the aforementioned four additional LHDs, as well as new CLINs for Provision Items Ordered (PIO) and travel reimbursement for each additional ship.

All inquiries should be e-mailed to CDR Greg Sceviour (gregory.p.sceviour.mil@us.navy.mil) and Contract Specialist Kevin Becker (kevin.r.becker2.civ@us.navy.mil).  The Government does not commit to providing a response to any inquiries resulting from this synopsis.

Awarded contract N0002426C4434 to WALASHEK INDUSTRIAL & MARINE, INC. for 62395164.00 on 2026-08-17.
