About this opportunity

The Department of Energy, specifically Oak Ridge National Laboratory, is preparing to procure multiple isotopes through UT-Battelle, LLC in a pre-solicitation opportunity posted on December 6, 2024. The procurement involves nine specific isotopes with varying quantities and precise technical specifications, focusing on high-purity materials to be delivered within 90 days post-award. Potential vendors interested in participating must contact Lindsey Gulmire at gulmirelc@ornl.gov with their company details and contact information before the response deadline of December 18, 2024. The upcoming Request for Proposal (RFP) will likely evaluate vendors based on their ability to meet stringent isotopic enrichment percentages, chemical purity requirements (consistently >99.90%), and delivery capabilities. The isotope procurement is categorized under Other Basic Inorganic Chemical Manufacturing (NAICS 325180) and Commercial and Industrial Gas Cylinders (PSC 8120).

The pre-solicitation notice indicates no specific set-aside designations, meaning the opportunity is open to all qualified vendors. The procurement will target isotopes in various forms including metals, metal powders, and oxide compounds, with the largest quantities being Zinc-68 (400g), Nickel-62 (350g), and Thallium-205 (200g). While specific award values are not disclosed, the procurement is expected to be awarded in early 2025 with most deliveries required within 90 days, except for Gallium-69 which has a six-month delivery timeframe. The technical specifications document details precise requirements for each isotope, including specific enrichment percentages and chemical purity levels that vendors must meet. UT-Battelle, LLC is conducting this procurement on behalf of Oak Ridge National Laboratory, suggesting a complex and specialized scientific research or development purpose for these isotopes.
