About this opportunity
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, seeks one fully crewed and equipped self-propelled trailing suction hopper dredge to perform maintenance and navigation dredging on the Mississippi River from Baton Rouge to the Gulf and Southwest Pass, with questions due May 1, 2026, and a bid opening date to be established by future amendment.
Place of performance is the Mississippi River and Southwest Pass with potential secondary work in Calcasieu River Bar Channel, Mississippi River crossings, and the Mobile and Galveston Districts. The contract magnitude ranges from $10 million to $25 million. Eight bid lots are available, differentiated by pump inside diameter (26 to 39.37 inches), hopper capacity (3,600 to 14,788 cubic yards), and dragarm configuration (one or two). Base dredging operations encompass 991 to 2,558 estimated operating hours depending on the selected lot, with optional dredging hours mirroring base quantities. Optional items include NMFS-approved protected species observers (30 days) and sea turtle and sturgeon trawling/relocation (30 days).
The dredge must operate in water depths of 30 to 61 feet, achieve dredging speeds of at least two knots upstream against five-knot currents, and reach a minimum 9-knot transit speed when fully loaded. All work must comply with EM 385-1-1 Safety and Occupational Health Requirements and National Dredging Quality Management Program certification with real-time data transmission. Sea turtle protection equipment (deflectors, screens, monitoring) and comprehensive environmental protection measures are required. Bidders must be registered in SAM, submit a completed Hopper Dredge and Attendant Plant Data Sheet with equipment availability documentation, and provide a bid bond of 20 percent of bid price or $3 million, whichever is less. Payment is hourly at rates to be bid, with fractional pay classifications ranging from 0 to 100 percent based on operational status and weather conditions. Contact Cori A. Caimi at 504-862-1352 or Bambi Raja at 504-862-1499.
