About this opportunity

The Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) has published a Special Notice regarding three draft military performance specifications for fiber optic cables intended for shipboard applications. The three specifications under development are MIL-PRF-85045/27D with Amendment 1 (twelve-fiber bundle cable), MIL-PRF-85045/38 with Amendment 1 (forty-eight-fiber bundle cable), and MIL-PRF-85045/39 with Amendment 1 (seventy-two-fiber ribbon cable). All three specifications address blown optical fiber cable configurations for both single-mode and multimode applications in naval environments. This Special Notice is published by the Department of the Navy and falls under the Fiber Optic Cable Manufacturing industry category. It is important to note that this is a Special Notice and not an active solicitation for contract awards.

NAVSEA's objective in developing these specifications is to accommodate diverse design solutions and manufacturing processes while encouraging participation from a broad vendor base in the fiber optic cable market. Interested parties may request copies of the draft specifications by emailing CommandStandards@navy.mil with the relevant document number in the subject line. The public review and comment period for these draft specifications concludes on March 12, 2026, providing a deadline of approximately two weeks from the notice posting date for stakeholders to submit feedback. There are no specific eligibility restrictions mentioned in this notice, as it is an open call for industry input rather than a formal solicitation. Upon finalization, interested contractors can monitor ASSIST Online at https://quicksearch.dla.mil/ for the completed specifications and any future procurement opportunities that may arise from these standards.
