About this opportunity
The U.S. Department of Energy's Western Area Power Administration (WAPA) has issued a Sources Sought Notice for microwave tower inspection services. This Special Notice, posted on April 2, 2026, with a response deadline of April 16, 2026, is intended for market research purposes only and does not constitute a request for proposal or a commitment to award a contract. WAPA is seeking to identify small business contractors capable of providing comprehensive inspection and maintenance services on guyed and self-supported microwave towers across four regional territories: the Desert Southwest Region, Rocky Mountain Region, Sierra Nevada Region, and Upper Great Plains Region. The notice is released pursuant to FAR Part 10 Market Research and serves to gather information about available sources and their capabilities for potential future solicitation.
The primary objective of this Sources Sought Notice is to determine the availability, capabilities, and interest of qualified small business firms before issuing a formal Request for Quote. Interested contractors must submit responses by April 16, 2026, including a one-page cover letter with company contact information and point-of-contact details, along with supporting documentation as outlined in the attachments provided. Eligibility is limited to small businesses classified under NAICS 541350 (Building Inspection Services) with a size standard of $11.5 million or less, and responses must address the specific requirements detailed in the WAPA Performance Work Statement Draft. Contractors should understand that no contract will be awarded from this announcement, no reimbursement will be provided for response costs, and the information collected will inform the Government's final determination regarding business type classification for the subsequent RFQ solicitation.
