About this opportunity

Andrews AFB Fire and Emergency Services, operating under the Department of the Air Force Headquarters District Washington, is preparing to procure Mercedes-brand fire hoses and couplings and anticipates a total small business set-aside; responses to this sources sought notice are due by September 23, 2026 at 3:00 PM EDT.

The procurement covers three hose categories with factory-installed anodized aluminum couplings featuring directional indicators and locking mechanisms: 4-inch supply hose (24 yellow and 6 red units at 100 feet each with 4-inch Storz couplings) for primary water delivery from hydrants during structural and Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting incidents; 1.75-inch attack hose (24 units in multiple colors at 50 feet each with 1.5-inch NH couplings) for interior structural fire operations; and 2.5-inch attack/supply hose (4 orange units at 50 feet each with 2 7/8-inch NH couplings) for high-flow operations including large-volume fires and standpipe support.

All hoses must feature Permatek protective coatings for abrasion resistance and comply with U.S. fire service NH thread standards. Specific construction requirements include Megaflo/Breather design for the 4-inch supply hose and KrakenExo double-jacket construction for attack and attack/supply hoses. Equipment must be suitable for structural firefighting, ARFF support, and extended service life in high-heat environments. This is a sources sought notice only; no formal proposals are being accepted at this stage. Detailed specifications are provided in Attachments 1 and 2.

Notice text

The organization, Andrews AFB Fire and Emergency Services, has identified a critical need to acquire new, specialized fire hoses and couplings. This is a Sources Sought Notice ONLY. No proposals are being requested or accepted at this time. This notice does not constitute a solicitation. The required items are specifically Mercedes-brand hoses of various types and sizes, complete with factory-installed, compatible aluminum couplings. This includes:

- 4" Supply Hose: Needed for providing the primary water supply from hydrants to fire apparatus during structural and Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) incidents.
- 1.75" Attack Hose: To serve as the primary hose for firefighters to conduct interior attacks on structural fires.
- 2.5" Attack/Supply Hose: Required for situations demanding high-flow water streams, such as large-volume fires, standpipe operations, and ARFF support.
- Couplings: Essential for ensuring secure, leak-free connections that prevent accidental disconnection under pressure and speed up deployment with directional indicators.
The end goal is to equip the fire department with reliable, durable, and standardized equipment that is suitable for a range of critical operations, including structural firefighting, ARFF support, and municipal water supply tasks. The need is for equipment that ensures a dependable water supply, enhances firefighter safety, and improves operational efficiency on the fire-ground.
