About this opportunity

The 309th Aircraft Maintenance Group (AMXG) Squadron, under the Department of the Air Force Materiel Command Air Force Sustainment Center, is seeking continued development and production support for the Ergo-Blast plastic media blast trigger system. The procurement encompasses design improvements, prototype testing, and manufacturing of 30 updated triggers and 10 updated grips for delivery to Hill Air Force Base. This research and development effort falls under NAICS 541715 (Research and Development in the Physical, Engineering, and Life Sciences) and PSC AC12 (National Defense R&D Services). The government intends to issue a sole-source solicitation to Triton Systems Inc. (Cage Code 0VLJ1), which has received Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I and Phase II support for the initial development of these components and possesses the requisite technical data and capabilities. However, the solicitation remains open to competing offers, and any other responsible source may submit a capability statement, proposal, or quotation for consideration. The pre-solicitation notice was posted on April 7, 2026, with responses due by April 17, 2026.

This opportunity is designated as a Total Small Business set-aside and represents a SBIR Phase III Program award under the SBIR/SITR Reauthorization Act of 2011 and DFARS 252.227-7018. Triton Systems Inc., the incumbent contractor and prior recipient of Phase I and Phase II SBIR funding, is positioned as the primary candidate for award due to its existing technical expertise and possession of critical developmental data. Competing firms must identify their business status (large business, 8(a) enterprise, women-owned small business, HUBZone small business, Veteran-owned small business, or service-disabled Veteran-owned small business) and clarify their U.S. or foreign ownership status in their responses. No specific contract award value or overall budget has been disclosed in this pre-solicitation notice. Interested parties should emphasize their capabilities in supporting the design, testing, and production of advanced blast trigger mechanisms when submitting their statements of capability or proposals.
