About this opportunity
NASA Kennedy Space Center is seeking partnership opportunities for the Mass Spectrometer observing lunar operations (MSolo) Gas Analysis Instrument through a Request for Information due August 3, 2026. This is an RFI for planning purposes only; no procurement action or reimbursement will follow from responses.
MSolo is a ruggedized, modified commercial-off-the-shelf quadrupole mass spectrometer designed to identify and quantify lunar volatiles including water, methane, and helium. The instrument measures gas species up to 100 m/z with unit mass resolution, operates on 28 Vdc power with RS-422 communication, and demonstrated full functionality during the IM-2/PRIME-1 lunar mission in March 2025. NASA invites capability statements and expressions of interest from for-profit and non-profit companies, academic institutions, small businesses, and potential prime contractors for future lunar services.
Responses should address proposed mission concepts (lander, rover, or orbital platform), technical integration feasibility including payload accommodation and interface requirements, operational strategies and concept of operations, and partnership models such as cost-sharing, Cooperative Research and Development Agreements, or Non-Reimbursable Space Act Agreements. NASA is assessing the breadth of technical solutions, operational concepts, and commercial models to maximize the instrument's scientific and commercial value and enable rapid infusion into upcoming lunar missions.
Capability statements must not exceed 10 pages in PDF format, include company name, point of contact, and socioeconomic status, and be submitted to Christina.L.Williams@nasa.gov. Proprietary or confidential information must be clearly labeled. NASA may provide future support including furnishing MSolo units, technical and integration support, verification and validation testing, and operational collaboration.
