About this opportunity
The U.S. Army Contracting Command - New Jersey, on behalf of the Project Manager Soldier Weapons at Picatinny Arsenal, is issuing a Request for Information (RFI) to survey the market for prime contractors capable of developing the M320 Grenadier Sighting System (GSS), a non-magnified reflex or holographic optical sight for the M320/M320A1 Grenade Launcher Module. The GSS must meet comprehensive technical requirements including unity magnification with 62 arc-second resolution or better, dual near-infrared aiming and illumination lasers, ballistic solutions for M433 and M781 ammunition with updatable firing tables, a maximum weight of 11 ounces, and 96-hour battery runtime on standard batteries. Environmental survivability specifications are extensive, requiring operational performance across -28.9°C to +48.9°C temperatures, waterproofing to 1 meter depth for 30 minutes, drop testing from 2 feet, salt fog exposure, and electromagnetic environmental effects testing. The RFI requests technical specifications, brochures, demonstration videos, environmental performance data, current customer references, and business information from interested firms to inform future solicitation development. The deadline for responses and questions is March 11, 2026.
This opportunity does not have a set-aside designation and has not identified any incumbent contractors or current suppliers. No specific award value or budget range has been disclosed in this pre-solicitation notice, as the RFI is intended solely to gather market information prior to formal proposal solicitation. The technical specification document provided (GSS AR-PD-176 dated October 12, 2016) indicates the government expects reliability performance of 1,500 mean rounds between essential function failures for Class III malfunctions and 200 mean rounds for combined Class I and II malfunctions, suggesting this is a mature requirement. Verification methodology will include design verification testing on 15 units and first article inspection on 3-10 units depending on requirements. Interested contractors should prepare their submissions to include company information, CAGE code, DUNS number, NAIC classification, business size designation, and detailed technical data on each candidate GSS model under consideration.
