About this opportunity
The Department of the Navy Naval Supply Systems Command issued a Limited/Sole Source Justification Notice for urgent repairs to the O2N2 low pressure air compressor #2 (LPAC) aboard the USNS Comfort hospital ship. The procurement was justified due to the critical failure of the LPAC system during a mission, rendering it non-operational and potentially compromising the vessel's medical and operational readiness capabilities. The scope of work includes diagnosing the root cause of high vibration alarms causing system shutdowns, repairing or replacing faulty components in the first stage compressor, and replacing the automatic unloader valve to restore normal operation. Three vendors were initially solicited including JPL Compressor and Cummins Wagner, with the requirement specifying a qualified service technical representative familiar with Gas Equipment Engineering Corp who has previous experience with this specific equipment. Contract N0040625PS335 was awarded on July 24, 2025, though both the winning vendor name and contract value remain undisclosed in the public notice. The urgency justification emphasizes the critical nature of the LPAC system in supporting the hospital ship's medical mission capabilities and overall operational effectiveness.
