About this opportunity
The National Science Foundation (NSF) has published a Justification and Approval (J&A) for Other than Full and Open Competition to extend the Antarctic Support Contract (ASC) (#NSFDACS1219442) by 18 months, from March 2025 to September 2026. The ASC provides critical logistics and operations support for scientific research and activities in Antarctica managed by the U.S. Antarctic Program. NSF cites the authority under FAR 6.302-3 to maintain an essential engineering, research, and development capability, and estimates the value of the 18-month extension at $300M. The extension is necessary to accommodate site visits, proposal development, and a sufficient transition period for the follow-on ASC procurement, which is not expected to be awarded by the current contract's end date. The original contract was awarded to an unknown vendor on November 23, 2011.
