The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Pittsburgh District, has a requirement to remove sediment and vegetation along Stonycreek River, Johnstown Local Flood Protection Project, Unit No. 6, City of Johnstown, Cambria County, Pennsylvania. The general description of the work is as follows:
The overall contract scope of work requires the contractor to remove approximately 11,000 cubic yards of sediment from two locations within the Stonycreek River. The sediment will be sampled and disposed of in accordance with State and Federal regulations.
Mature woody and brushy vegetation has grown within the sediment deposits. All vegetation and root systems will be removed from the sediment deposits. Approximately five acres of vegetation and roots will need to be removed.
Additionally, mature woody and brushy vegetation, has also grown within some of the weepholes and expansion joints along the concrete channel lining. Vegetation will be removed from the weepholes and joints adjacent to the locations of sediment removal. Vegetation larger than ½-inch in diameter will be cut flush with the concrete and be treated with herbicide. Approximately 560 weepholes and 2,000 feet of joints will need to be cleaned.
After removing vegetation from the expansion joints, the joints will be prepared and resealed with new sealant material. Only those sections where vegetation has been removed will be resealed. The work shall be completed within 365 calendar days after written Notice to Proceed. The estimated cost of the proposed work is between $1,000,000.00 and $5,000,000.00.
