The DC and preferred AC system in the John Day Powerhouse consists of several 125VDC, 250VDC, and 48VDC battery banks, along with associated chargers, switchboards, panelboards, and inverters. This system is used to provide Uninterruptible Power to critical station service loads in the event of a power failure.
This project covers all work required to furnish, install, commission, and place in service the new DC and preferred AC system at John Day. This includes but is not limited to replacing and upgrading the batteries, battery racks, chargers, switchboards, panelboards, feeders, and feeder breakers associated with this system. Battery monitoring systems and hydrogen gas detection modules are also within the scope of this project. This work will also include power and control wiring replacement, conduit modification and installation, concrete core drilling, battery room ventilation, seismic anchorage of installed equipment, temporary DC power during construction, and mitigation of all environmental concerns, including possible asbestos abatement for older wiring, associated with work of this nature.
