About this opportunity
The Department of Veterans Affairs Veterans Health Administration, Network Contracting Office 10 in Cincinnati, Ohio, has issued a Special Notice announcing its intent to award a sole source, Firm-Fixed Price Contract for a Cepheid GeneXpert service agreement. The contract is specifically designated for the Columbus Veterans Affairs Ambulatory Care Center (VAACC) located at 420 North James Road, Columbus, Ohio. The government intends to award this contract directly to CEPHEID, located at 904 Caribbean Drive, California 94089, with UEI number W6HQTMWB9Q28. This procurement falls under the maintenance, repair, and rebuild of medical equipment category (PSC J065) and electronic and precision equipment repair and maintenance (NAICS 811210). The notice satisfies the Federal Acquisition Regulation requirement for publication of proposed contract actions and emphasizes that it is not a request for quote, with no formal solicitation to be made available.
The primary purpose of this Special Notice is to inform the contracting community of the government's intent to proceed with a sole source procurement while providing an opportunity for other contractors to demonstrate their capabilities. Contractors may submit capabilities statements or quotations for consideration by the agency, but all responses must be received by Friday, October 17, 2025, at 10:00 AM Eastern Time. Submissions should be directed to Contracting Officer Michael Groneman at michael.groneman@va.gov and Contracting Specialist Andrew Arnst at andrew.arnst@va.gov. The government explicitly states it will not reimburse any costs incurred by contractors in preparing responses to this notice. While this is structured as a sole source procurement to Cepheid, the notice allows other qualified contractors in the medical equipment maintenance and repair field to present their qualifications for potential consideration, in accordance with FAR provisions that encourage competition even in sole source situations.
