About this opportunity
The Department of Veterans Affairs Technology Acquisition Center Austin has published a Special Notice for the renewal of five annual licenses for Symedical medical terminology software. The notice is posted under the title "IR Symedical Software" and represents a sole-source procurement action with no set-aside designation. The Electronic Health Record Modernization Integration Office (EHRM-IO) requires this software to support the ongoing migration of patient data from the legacy VistA electronic health record system to the new Oracle Health Millennium platform. Clinical Architecture, LLC of Carmel, Indiana has been identified as the proposed vendor for this acquisition. The notice was posted on September 2, 2025, with a response deadline of September 9, 2025.
The primary objective of this procurement is to facilitate terminology mapping and maintenance activities essential for the VA's electronic health record modernization initiative. The Symedical software will enable automated mapping of existing medical terminology codes to ensure seamless data migration from VistA to Millennium and support data syndication back to VA systems. After conducting extensive market research that reviewed thirteen alternative solutions, the VA determined that Clinical Architecture's Symedical is the only product capable of meeting their complex requirements for automated terminology mapping, workflow management, and comprehensive data migration support. The proposed contract structure includes a 36-month period of performance with one 12-month base year and two 12-month option periods, and the licenses will include software updates, patches, and help desk support. Since this is a sole-source procurement based on the government's determination that only Clinical Architecture can provide the required capabilities, there is no competition for this acquisition and contractors cannot compete for this opportunity.
