About this opportunity
The Air Force Sustainment Center issued a notice of intent to sole source to Meteorological Products Inc for Jimsphere High Resolution Wind Profiler balloons, 2-meter diameter with clear 1/2 mil polyester film, with a response deadline of May 22, 2026. The Government intends to procure under FAR 6.103-1 authority and will not conduct competitive solicitation.
The 309th Software Engineering Group seeks the commodity to support the 520AD program and the Atmospheric Meteorological Profiling System at Vandenberg Space Force Base, which requires this specific balloon to deliver upper air wind speed, direction, and thermodynamic data for launch planning. The Jimsphere is the only approved weather balloon for the Western and Eastern Ranges and incorporates unique technologies unavailable from competitors, including exterior nodules with radar reflective technology and advanced radiosonde capabilities that integrate seamlessly with existing 520AD program devices.
All responsible sources may submit capability statements within eight calendar days of publication. The Government will consider all responses received by the deadline, though the determination to proceed with single-source procurement remains at the Government's discretion. Technical capability approval is required; the Air Force Space Command will not delay award pending source approval of a new vendor. Delivery must not exceed 120 days after receipt of order. Market research included searches of AbilityOne, GSA 2 GIT, GSA Advantage, NASA SEWP, and SAM.gov, as well as an RFI posted March 6, 2025, which identified no viable alternatives.
