About this opportunity
The Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime is seeking to procure 179 to 358 Impeller, Fan, Axial components (NSN: 2930006795742) for the Abrams tank's AVDS-1790 diesel engine system. These specialized cooling fans are critical components designed to fit precisely within the engine's V12-cylinder arrangement, requiring unique engineering expertise to meet specific mechanical and performance requirements. The pre-solicitation notice (SPRDL1-24-R-0204) indicates that all responsible sources may submit an offer, with the solicitation expected to provide detailed instructions for obtaining technical drawings. The procurement emphasizes the need for a cooling fan that can withstand high-temperature environments during full load and high RPM operations, with precise blade pitch, stand-off, and diameter specifications. The anticipated due date for the solicitation is approximately May 25, 2025, with a pre-solicitation posting date of March 31, 2025 and a response deadline of April 15, 2025.
The pre-solicitation notice does not indicate any specific set-aside designations, and the procurement is sole-sourced to Renk America LLC (CAGE CODE: 02978), which has been identified as the only source with the requisite technical and engineering expertise to meet the complex requirements. The cooling fans must be compatible with both 2-series and 8CR variants of the AVDS-1790 engine, demonstrating the highly specialized nature of the component. While specific award value ranges are not disclosed, the procurement involves a precision-engineered part critical to military weapon systems. The quantity range of 179 minimum to 358 maximum suggests potential flexibility based on specific military equipment needs. The procurement is specifically for engine cooling system components classified under PSC Category 2930-P, highlighting the technical specificity of the required equipment.

PRE-SOLICITATION NOTICE: SPRDL1-24-R-0204
Item Name: Impeller, Fan, Axial
NSN:2930006795742
Part Number: 8761242
Quantity: 179 Min/ 358 max
End Item: ABRAMS
This item is SOLE SOURCED TO Renk America LLC CAGE CODE: 02978
THE DUE DATE IS ON OR ABOUT May 25 2025 (SEE SOLICITATION FOR ACTUAL DUE DATE). THE SOLICITATION WILL INSTRUCT HOW TO OBTAIN DRAWINGS. ALL RESPONSIBLE SOURCES MAY SUBMIT AN OFFER WHICH WILL BE CONSIDERED. The cooling fans are critical components of a highly specialized AVDS-1790 diesel engine assembly which operates in a unique military weapons system. The design of the cooling fans are uniquely designed to fit atop of the valley of the AVDS-1790’s V12-cylinder arrangement and align with the shaft which drives its operation without interference with the cylinder head assemblies or the adjacent cooling fan (qty. 2 per engine). Development of a similar item would also be required to fit within this unique space claim without interference with existing components collocated within the valley of the engine. The cooling fan also needs to be capable of surviving the high temperature environment when installed on the AVDS-1790 engines under full load operating conditions at high rpm, since the temperatures of the air-cooled diesel are substantial. The cooling fan would also be
required to have the proper blade pitch, stand-off and diameter to optimize air-flow and ultimately satisfy the cooling requirements of both the 2-series and 8CR variants of the AVDS-1790 engine. Only the identified source, Renk America LLC, has repeatedly demonstrated the requisite technical and engineering expertise to meet all mechanical and performance requirements called out in the technical data package.
