Young people under 18 years of age comply half of the population of Shiprock Service Unit (SSU) Indian Health Service (IHS). Over 10,000 young people in between the ages of 10 and 18. Comprehensive School Health Education is a key priiority area for SSU Health Promotion effort as well as Navajo Nation Department of Health, Health Education Program. The key cause of morbidity and mortality for young people in the Shiprock Service Unit are all behaviorally related, preventable. Injuries both unintentional (i.e., motor vehicle crashes) and intentional (homicide, suicide, assault) are the number one cause of mortality. Client illnesses developing later in life such diabetes and hypertention hae their roots in behavioral begun in childhood.
Tasks:
1. Contractor will plan, develop and implement Teen Parent Educator to provide support for teen parents ensuring that they pursue pre-natal care with Indian Health Services, as well as providing early health and wellness intervention for infants of teen parents;
2. Contractor will provide direct consultation in the adaptation of health services for Impact Concussion equipment training.
3. Contractor will provide water therapy for Shiprock Indian Health Service patients with arthritis, spinal cord injury and other disabling conditions;
4. Contractor will develop and community early response to heart disease programs that will include Automated External Defibrillators (AED) and staff and community training at school sites. Maintain emergency response equipment for first aid kits, AED equipment, and EPI pens for schools and community.
5. Contractor will provide support in community based Health Promotion Disease Promotion (HPDP) promotional events related to wellness initiatives and other HPDP related projects.
6. Contractor will provide Crisis Prevention Training for staff to de-escalate inappropriate student behaviors;
7. Contractor will provide health training and supplies for students, parents, community and staff.
