HITECH. This is for informational purpose only. Please do not reply to this Notice. The Government will not reply to question.

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (Recovery Act) (Pub. L. 115-5) was signed into law on February 17, 2009. The Recovery Act provides major opportunities for the improvement of our nation's health care through the use of health information technology. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Office of E-Health Standards & Services (OESS) is charged with implementing Title IV of Division B while the Office of the National Coordinator for HIT (ONC) is charged with implementing Title XIII of Division A. Collectively, these provisions may be cited as the "Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act" or the "HITECH Act".

The purpose of this effort is to support CMS in the analysis and evaluation of Stage 1 data reported by eligible professionals, eligible hospitals, and CAHs to help inform the development of Stage 2 definition of meaningful use. The analysis will focus on the meaningful use functional measures and will not include the clinical quality measures; and is expected to begin as soon as possible. The work shall also include the analysis of Stage 2 public comments received from the NPRM.
