About this opportunity
The Forest Service issued a special notice on July 24, 2026, soliciting task order proposals for load rating of five road bridges in Nevada's Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, with proposals due August 10, 2026; this opportunity is restricted to Department of Interior/Fish and Wildlife Service Architectural and Engineering MATOC holders in Nevada only, and all other submittals will not be considered or opened.
The work encompasses load rating of five bridges across Elko, Lander, Humboldt, and Mineral counties using AASHTO Manual for Bridge Evaluation methodology. Structures include Jack Creek Bridge (39 ft voided slab), Kingston Campground (7 ft steel rail section girders), Buckskin Creek (12 ft reinforced concrete culvert), and two sections of Bodie Creek (19 ft steel rail car structures each). Load rating vehicles must include HL-93 Design Load, AASHTO Legal Loads (Type 3, 3S2, 3-3), Emergency Vehicles, Notional Rating Load, and a Permit Load (5 axle, 50 ton, 57 foot low boy) under Strength I & II and Service III load combinations. Field evaluation shall include Ground Penetrating Radar analysis to determine rebar locations, spacing, cover, orientation, slab thicknesses, and pre-stress strand locations; concrete compressive strength may be determined using calibrated rebound hammer testing.
Load rating engineers must hold Nevada Professional Engineer registration with a minimum of three years' bridge design experience and qualification as an NBIS Bridge Inspection Team Leader. Draft reports are due July 31, 2027, and final reports due August 31, 2027. Respondents must submit SF-330 forms and coordinate proposed inspection schedules with Forest Service Intermountain Region contacts to align with bridge access availability.
