Update #8 · Latest ·
The work involves using the NASA GRC Alternative Fuels Laboratory to perform research using the Fischer-Tropsch Reactors to study the performance of various catalysts. Both long and short term testing will be conducted.
Update #7 ·
This sub-task is for the identification and development of structural health monitoring techniques related to conducting spin experiments on subscale turbine engine rotor like disks and performing analytical calculations to verify and correlate test results into meaningful relations in attempt to develop physics based model for crack detections methodology. Additionally, vibration based health monitoring under both global and local approaches for monitoring critical rotor components is to be investigated. The local approach is limited to monitoring a rotating rotor while utilization of sensors that ride-on-the-spinning disk. Under local approach, piezoelectric patches, attached directly to the structure of interest (e.g., the spinning disk), can be used for passive listening (i.e., acoustic emissions), active ultrasonics (i.e., pulse/receive), as well as for impedance based structural health monitoring (SHM). Data from blade displacement sensors are to be used to follow changes in the rotor systems dynamic response.
Update #6 ·
Develop and validate physical models within general purpose Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) codes for predicting fluid and thermodynamic behavior inside cryogenic storage tanks that are representative of manned space exploration vehicles and possible future in-space cryogenic propellant depots.
Update #5 ·
This sub-task will support space environmental interactions testing and thermal balance tests of solar cells and candidate array segments in support of the Advanced Exploration Systems Modular Power Systems (AMPS) program and the Solar Probe Plus program. This work involves qualifying solar cells and solar array blankets to allow the ROSA type solar array to be baselined for future space missions. The space environmental interactions testing portion will include simulations in both Low Earth Orbit as well as in geosynchronous orbit conditions.
Update #4 ·
This sub-task represents support for experimental combustion research in droplet combustion (FLEX), and associated analysis or analytical work, funded by NASA Headquarters to be conducted on the ISS. The specific responsibilities (functions) are those associated with engineering support (SE), Project Scientist (PS) and/or Principal/Co-Investigator (PI/Co-I).
Update #3 ·
The contractor shall provide aerospace research and technology development support to aid in the development of advanced seals technology for use in a variety of applications including: docking systems, spacecraft habitable volumes, thermal protection systems, and the airframes and propulsion systems of hypersonic, supersonic, and subsonic vehicles.
Update #2 ·
The objective is to develop, apply and evaluate scaling methods for simulating in-flight ice accretion on swept wings, aircraft engines and rotorcraft using ground-based icing wind tunnel facilities. The contractor shall provide the necessary technical expertise to support the development of analytical tools and scaling methods, and to document such methods.
Update #1 ·
The Contractor shall be responsible for performing the activities required for effective management of the ARTS contract and its task orders and managing a workforce with the skills needed to complete the tasks. The Contractor shall provide on-site, day-to-day leadership necessary to inspire and manage the NASA Advanced Research and Technology Support (ARTS) contractors and on-site personnel. These services shall assure the timely turnaround of task orders, ensure capable and professional personnel are provided to accomplish tasks in the contract Statement of Work, provide accurate and on time monthly budgets/reports and be responsive to NASA managements communications.
