About this opportunity

Paragraph 1:

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Geology, Energy & Minerals Science Center (GEMSC) has a requirement for lithium and strontium isotope analyses on powdered and homogenized rock and mineral, brine, and solution samples. The data will facilitate the understanding of the sources of lithium in subsurface brines associated with petroleum reservoirs, provide insights into basinal fluid flow, and enhance the understanding of lithium behavior in surface mineral systems and deposits. The USGS intends to make a non-competitive award to the University of Texas, Austin, Department of Geological Sciences, which has the necessary expertise and equipment, including a Ph.D. in geochemistry and the ability to operate a TIMS and MC-ICPMS. All questions and submissions in response to this notice must be submitted electronically via email to Kimberly Schneider, krschneider@usgs.gov by 5:00 PM CT on July 3, 2024.

Paragraph 2:

This requirement is not set aside for any specific business size or type. The USGS has determined that the University of Texas, Austin is the only source reasonably available to perform these complex analyses. The anticipated cost is expected to be fair and reasonable based on previous procurement history. The USGS intends to award this requirement noncompetitively in accordance with FAR 13.106-1(b)(1).
