About this opportunity

The Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) is seeking a contractor to develop and produce the Fuze Munition Unit (FMU-179/B), an electronic General Purpose Bomb (GPB) fuze for US and NATO forces. This full and open competition aims to replenish bomb fuze inventories and requires expertise in design, development, systems engineering, and production of advanced weapons systems components. Interested companies must submit a capability statement by January 10, 2025, demonstrating experience in GPB fuze development, integration, and manufacturing. The evaluation will focus on the company's technical expertise, including relevant past contracts, production capabilities, willingness to enter a five-year production contract, and compliance with NAICS Code 332994 requirements. NAVAIR plans to release a Draft Request for Proposal in the second quarter of FY25 and the Final RFP in the first quarter of FY26.

The pre-solicitation notice indicates no specific set-aside designations for this contract opportunity. The contract will involve engineering, manufacturing, and development (EMD) activities, including system analysis, testing, program management, and qualification testing through operational test phases. The proposed period of performance includes a first article test period followed by a base production year and four additional ordering periods. While no specific award value is mentioned, the contract will support the development and production of the FMU-179/B fuze for air-dropped conventional warhead-based weapons systems, including Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) and Mark-80/Bomb Logistics Unit series bombs. Vendors must affirm they are not under Foreign Ownership, Control, or Influence (FOCI) and will need to access the Procurement Integrated Enterprise Environment (PIEE) Tool to submit proposals securely.
