About this opportunity
The Bureau of Land Management's Central Coast Field Office is seeking quotes for a targeted grazing services contract to reduce fire hazards, increase climate resilience and improve ecological health at the Fort Ord National Monument in California. Quotes are due by July 30, 2023 and will be evaluated based on lowest price technically acceptable. The potential five-year contract from December 2023 through November 2028 requires providing a minimum of 500 and maximum of 2,200 goats or sheep for five months each year to reduce non-native grasses and brush and increase native species across approximately 3,722 acres.
The opportunity is set aside for total small businesses. Grazing services will take place from December through June annually, compensating the contractor for three wet season and two dry season months each year. The location of performance is the Fort Ord National Monument in Monterey County, California. Services include fencing, herder and livestock management, and monitoring and reporting to reduce wildfire risk across 3,722 acres through targeted grazing of at least 500 goats or sheep per month.
Notice text
The purpose of this project is to use targeted livestock grazing (goats and potentially sheep) for fire hazard reduction, increased climate change resilience, and improved ecological health of Coastal Grasslands and Coast Live Oak Woodland at Fort Ord National Monument (FONM).
The goal is to reduce the density and abundance of non-native European grasses (using goats or sheep) as well as dense brush (using goats) in some areas and noxious weed species (using goats or sheep) while increasing native perennial grasses and native forbs (wildflowers).
The area targeted for grazing is approximately 3722 acres in size.
The contract could include up to five years of grazing between 2023-2028.
