About this opportunity

The Department of the Navy Naval Sea Systems Command has awarded a sole-source contract to BAE Systems, Norfolk, Virginia for an overhaul of the Vaneaxial Fan Motor for the SONAR Control Room/CSER No. 1 on the USS Forrest Sherman (DDG-98), with an estimated value of $111,289 in Fiscal Year 2026 Operation and Maintenance, Navy funds.

The justification cites unusual and compelling urgency under 10 U.S.C. 3204(a)(2) and FAR 6.302-2(a)(2). BAE Systems is identified as the only capable contractor because the vessel is currently in BAE's dry-dock facility. The work must commence no later than May 28, 2026, to integrate this overhaul into the existing large and complex work package and meet the C5ILO Key Event completion deadline of March 27, 2027, which supports the vessel's immediate follow-on deployment. The Vaneaxial Fan Motor is characterized as vital to ship systems. The Contracting Officer determined the anticipated cost fair and reasonable based on historical data, an Independent Government Estimate, and the Project Manager's technical knowledge. Market research was not conducted due to the critical and time-sensitive nature of the work. The work is performed at the contractor's Norfolk, Virginia facility and is awarded under existing contract N00024-26-C-4403 to the Mid-Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center.
