About this opportunity

The Department of the Air Force Materiel Command Air Force Sustainment Center has awarded a sole-source contract (FA813626F0023) to an unnamed vendor on April 20, 2026, for Flying Fox Sensors and associated support services under a limited sources justification.

The requirement addresses wireless intrusion detection within the Secure Air-gap Protected Facility (SAPF). The Air Force procures ten Flying Fox Sensors for installation, including the sensor unit, cellular antenna, Wi-Fi/BT antenna, and mounting bracket, plus one year of Software, Support, and Repair (SSR) for ten units. The justification centers on meeting specific customer demands from Network Operation Engineers for equipment that will enhance device detection accuracy and location identification to support data loss prevention and align with JSIG standards requiring proactive monitoring for unauthorized wireless connections. The Air Force asserts that Flying Fox Sensors are necessary to supplement the currently installed Wireless Intrusion Detection System firewall and that comparable alternatives do not exist. The Contracting Officer's determination was certified on March 13, 2026, with approving official authorization dated March 18, 2026. The contract was awarded via NASA SEWP Best in Class. Place of performance is Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma. Fair and reasonable pricing was ensured through market research and adequate price competition procedures per FAR Parts 12, 13.5, and 16.505.

Notice text

This is a new requirement and is needed by the Network Operation engineers as this will aid in taking a proactive approach in
data loss prevention by increasing accuracy of device detection locations and instances.
The Flying Fox Sensors purchase is for the Wireless Intrusion Detection System (WIDS) to detect and identify wireless devices
inside the SAPF. This will also help our security team in finding exactly where in the facility that these devices have been and
currently are. Wireless signals may radiate beyond the confines of organization-controlled facilities which is not good for
preventing data leakage. This is also to help us align ourselves better with the JSIG standards which states, "Organizations
should proactively monitor for unauthorized wireless connections, including scanning for unauthorized wireless access points at
least quarterly. Unauthorized wireless devices require reporting and response in accordance with the organization / system
incident response plan.

Flying Fox sensor for Installation, which includes:
