Added: Dec 17, 2013 1:17 pm This is a sources sought for commercial finite element analysis (FEA) modeling software.   The purpose for this posting is to perform market research for a governmental need.  Please review the description of the need below and if your firm is able to meet the requirement, please submit a quote to Jonathan Stone at jonathan.stone@wpafb.af.mil.  Quotes are due by 12 noon Tuesday, December 24, 2013.

DESCRIPTION
The FEA modeling software for elastic wave simulation represents an essential component of AFRL/RXCA computational nondestructive evaluation (NDE) research activities. The FEA modeling environment must provide a capability for simulating complex ultrasound sensor and ultrasound sensing physics in virtual and realistic aerospace material systems, where coupled electrical-mechanical-acoustic-thermal problems must be solved explicitly. The software must provide an accurate time-domain solution for large elastic wave propagation problems in complex material systems (>50 million elements), with specific capabilities for modeling mid- to high-frequency ultrasonic regimes (25kHz - 50MHz).

The software must be able to model ultrasonic damping in solids, fluids, and viscoelastic materials (volumetric and shear damping), and must be able to model nonlinear material interactions. The software must provide accurate modeling capabilities for ultrasound sensors involving electro-mechanical materials such as piezoelectric ceramics, and the capability for simulating electrical circuits for impedance matching and sensor cabling. The software must provide full-matrix, time-history field variable capture to include xyz displacements, velocities, stress, strain, pressure, electric fields for discrete elements/nodes, and also provide integrated piezoelectric sensor voltage response for realistic sensor configurations (piezoelectric crystals, electrodes, damping materials, coupling materials).

The software must be capable of accurately representing advanced aerospace structures and materials, such as carbon fiber composites, polycrystalline materials, and hybrid anisotropics. The software must provide a means for interactively working with save data sets to include frequency analysis, data plotting and animation, and advanced signal analysis (e.g. time-shifting, scaling, differentiation, integration, and extrapolation).
